On our recent holiday to Kerala, India, we were lucky enough to take an early morning safari cruise on the stunning man-made lake in Periyar National Park. Although the wildlife proved elusive, the breathtaking scenery more than made up for it.
Bahia Palace, Marrakech
A couple of years ago we spent a wonderful long weekend discovering the delights of Marrakech. Bahia Palace, with it’s exquisite architecture and decorations was an oasis of peace away from the madness of Jamaa El-Fnaa (which we loved, by the way). It is most definitely worth a visit. You can take a peaceful boat ride from the town of Pokhara which is strung along the shore of lovely Phewa Lake. If you wish the boats will drop you at the little island where the Taal Barahi Temple stands.

We woke one Sunday morning to find these beautiful, perfectly turned out, Shire Horses taking part in a ploughing contest in the field across the road from our house.
Shanti Stupa, Pokhara, Nepal
This beautiful Buddhist Peace Pagoda is set high on a hill overlooking Pokhara. I’m afraid we chickened out and took a hair-raising taxi ride to the top. But so worth it, for the peace, the clean clear air, and the views of the mountains with Pokhara laid out like a tablecloth beneath them. Gorgeous.
